Easy Refined-Sugar-Free Holiday Apple Crisp
Yield: 6-8
Estimated Time: 1 hour
Ingredients:
Apple Filling:
6 apples, diced (peeled or unpeeled)
3 TBSP melted butter**
¼ cup oat flour*
3 TBSP maple syrup
1 tsp salt (optional)
Crumble:
1 cup oats
1 ¼ cup oat flour*
3 TBSP butter (grated or cut into small cubes)**
3 TBSP maple syrup
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375℉.
In a large bowl, place the apples, melted butter, ¼ cup oat flour, maple syrup, and salt if using. Mix well. Store in the fridge while preparing the crumple.
In another bowl, add the oats and remaining oat flour.
Grate or cube the butter and sprinkle over the oats. Using your freshly cleaned hands, mix the oats with the butter until it makes a nice crumble.
Pour the maple syrup over the crumble, use your hands or a spatula to incorporate with the rest of the crumble.
Pour the apple mixture into a pie pan or a small casserole dish.
Sprinkle the crumble over the apple mixture.
Bake in the oven for 35-45 minutes. Watch carefully during the last 10 minutes to avoid burning the top.
Serve alone or with your favorite ice-cream.
Notes:
* Make homemade oat flour by placing 1 ½ rolled oats in a blender. Blend until you have a course flour.
** To make this apple crisp dairy-free, use coconut oil instead of butter. For the apple mixture, you want to use melted coconut oil. For the crumble, you want solid coconut oil.
